We were made welcome at Angelica’s Café in Morleys Department Store in Bexleyheath by the manageress, Corrie. Here are some pictures of the book signing.
The first photo shows the best-selling author Mary Gibson standing behind Elizabeth (left) and Linda. Mary kindly came along to lend us her support; we have known Mary for some years having joined the same writing class, and we are currently all members of the Bexley Scribblers writing group.
We are arranging more ‘Meet the Author’ sessions, so if you want your copies of the book signed please come along. Or if you have questions about the story or how to go about preparing a novel then keep an eye open on this site to see when we might be in your area. We will be at Morrison’s Sidcup on 14th May, watch out for more details.
London Bridge its history (cont.)
The bridge first appeared in about 50 A.D. built by the Romans in wood.
991-1014 AD
The Danes held much of the English countryside at this time and when King Ethelred attempted to recapture London he found the Danes had fortified the bridge. He moved down river and built boats that he covered over to protect his troops and quietly made his way up the river under the cover of darkness, tied ropes around the bridge supports and pulled them down, collapsing most of the structure, and stormed into London.
1066 AD
You can imagine William the Conqueror’s rage when he reached London to find the bridge heavily fortified against him. He was forced to take his soldiers all the way to Berkhamstead to ford the river so as to enter via the north of the city. He was crowned king Westminster Abbey on Christmas day 1066.
